WHO announces global reduction in numbers of men smoking tobacco

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has announced that the number of men smoking has declined for the first time. The report attributes the declining numbers to improved tobacco control policies across the world. Globally, the number of people smoking has fallen over the past two decades from 1.397bn in 2000 to 1.337bn in 2018, but until now this has been largely driven by reductions in smoking among women.
