US state of New York passes opioid agonist treatment bill for prisoners

The New York state assembly has passed a bill requiring prisons to provide access to opioid agonist treatments such as methadone and buprenorphine. The new legislation will ensure that people with opioid use disorders who are given prison sentences do not have medical treatments stopped during their incarceration. The bill awaits final approval by the state Governor, Andrew Cuomo.
