US state of California reports rise in fentanyl overdose deaths

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has reported that deaths involving fentanyl increased by 2100% in California over the past 5 years. Fentanyl was implicated in the majority of the 4,000 synthetic opioid related deaths recorded. The substance is being sold under its own name as powders or tablets and mixed with stimulants.
