US prosecutors accuse Honduras president of drug trafficking links

US federal prosecutors have filed documents that accuse the president of Honduras of using $1.5m of drug trafficking money to help fund his presidential campaign in 2013. The documents also allege that he received several payments of over $1m in exchange for using his position to protect drug dealers and traffickers. The papers have been filed in preparation for the trial of his brother who was arrested in 2018 in the US on cocaine trafficking charges.
