US issues warning against drinking hand sanitiser

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a warning against drinking methanol-based hand sanitisers after four people died and 11 were treated for poisoning in Arizona and New Mexico. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has also placed an import alert on several hand sanitisers originating in Mexico due to their methanol content and is working to remove all methanol-based hand sanitisers from sale in the US.
