US House of Representatives passes bill to decriminalise cannabis

The US House of Representatives has voted to decriminalise cannabis in federal law. Many individual US states have decriminalised or legalised cannabis possession and use; however, both remain illegal under US federal law. The bill would remove cannabis from the federal Controlled Substances Act, where it is currently listed alongside heroin and cocaine. It is expected the bill will be rejected by the Republican controlled Senate.
