US and Mexico agree new strategy to combat drug trafficking

The US Secretary of State and the Mexican President have agreed to work together to develop a strategy to tackle drug trafficking and cross-border arms smuggling. Both countries have agreed to rethink the strategies under the 2008 ‘Merida Initiative’; this will include reviewing the financial assistance that the US provides to Mexico to strengthen law enforcement.
