US$145m settlement for opioid tech firm

A technology firm in San Francisco has agreed to pay US$145m to settle criminal and civil charges relating to its role in increasing opioid use in the US. The company, Practice Fusion, Inc., were alleged to have solicited money from a large pharmaceutical company in exchange for building an alert into their healthcare records systems that would prompt physicians to prescribe, or increase prescriptions of, opioid medication.
