​UN votes to investigate killings in the Philippines

The Human Rights Council of the United Nations (UN) has supported a resolution proposed by Iceland to investigate extra-judicial killings in the Philippines ‘war on drugs’. The resolution instructs the UN human rights chief to investigate killings, enforced disappearances, arrests and persecutions of activists, journalists and members of political opposition parties, and to produce a report within one year. The vote was supported by 18 countries, with 14 countries opposing and 15 abstaining.
