UK reclassifies Gamma-Hydroxybutyrate (GHB) as a class B drug

The UK Home Secretary has announced that GHB will be reclassified from a class C to a class B drug. The change means that the maximum prison sentence for possession will increase from 2 to 5 years. The change in classification follows a recommendation in 2020 by the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs based on evidence of harms from the drug. The Home Secretary also commented that GHB had been used in several murders, sexual assaults and robberies.
