Uganda announces cannabis cultivation rules

The Ugandan government has published a set of rules to regulate cannabis cultivation. It has been legal to produce and export medical cannabis in Uganda since 2015; however, there have been no official guidelines until now. From January 2020, cannabis must be cultivated away from schools, hospitals or residential areas. The details of all business partners will have to be submitted to the government and companies wishing to cultivate cannabis must supply the government with site designs and security systems. Cannabis cultivators will also be required to present a minimum capital of Shs18.3bn (US$5m) and a bank guarantee of Shs4bn (US$1.1m).
