Tobacco use among Indian adolescents down by 42%

Results from India’s latest Global Youth Tobacco Survey suggest that there was a 42% decrease in tobacco use among people aged between 13 and 15 years old between 2009 and 2019. The 2019 survey reported that an estimated 8.5% currently used tobacco, that the average age for cigarette initiation was 11.5 years, and that 2.8% of young people reported having used vaping products.
