Taiwan proposes reduced minimum prison sentence for individuals caught growing cannabis

Taiwan’s Cabinet has proposed an amendment to the Narcotics Hazard Prevention Act to lower the prison sentence for people caught growing cannabis for personal use. Currently, those caught growing, transporting or selling cannabis face a minimum sentence of 5 years and a fine up to NT$5 million (approx. £177,000). If the amendment is approved, this will be reduced to a minimum sentence of 1 year and a fine up to NT$1 million (approx. £35,000).
