Spanish regions ban smoking in public to prevent COVID-19 transmission

The Spanish regions of Galicia and the Canary Islands have banned smoking in public places to slow transmission of COVID-19. The ban will apply to people smoking on the street where they cannot stay over 2 meters away from other people, and to people in bars and restaurants. The bans were implemented following research by the Spanish health ministry that linked smoking with increased spread of COVID-19 and with more severe symptoms among people testing positive for COVID-19.
