Spain’s alcohol sales increase alongside reduced consumption
Spain’s Ministry of Agriculture has reported that sales of spirits rose by 27.5% in the past 12 months along with a 23.8% increase in sales of beer and a 15.3% increase in wine sales. The increase has been attributed to a shift from drinking in bars and cafes to drinking in households during COVID-19 lock-down. A separate analysis by IWSR Drugs Market Analysis, however, estimated that Spain’s overall alcohol consumption reduced by around 16% in the past year.
