South Korean court rejects litigations against tobacco company

The South Korean’s Seoul Central District Court has opposed litigations made by the National Health Insurance Service (NHIS) against three major tobacco companies. The NHIS had sued KT&G Corp, British American Tobacco (BAT) and Philip Morris International (PMI) for treatment costs related to specific lung conditions caused by smoking. The court, however, ruled there was no direct ‘legal’ link between the financial burden of medical treatment and the tobacco companies.
