South African government faces smoking ban litigations
The Fair-Trade Independent Tobacco Association (FITA), which represents 80% of cigarette manufacturers in South Africa, has filed a lawsuit against the South African government relating to restrictions placed on tobacco sales during the COVID-19 lock-down. Tobacco sale bans have now been lifted; however, the FITA is requesting that the government is prohibited from reintroducing tobacco sales restrictions if a lock-down is reinstated.
