South Africa starts new alcohol advertising code

The Association for Alcohol Responsibility and Education in South Africa has launched a new code for advertising alcoholic drinks. The code is intended to prevent alcohol from being advertised to people under 18 years old. It lists several requirements: prominent age regulation statements must be displayed on alcohol products and adverts; adverts must include responsible messaging about drinking and driving; adverts must not associate alcoholic drinks with sports; age verification must be included on all alcohol websites; and no adverts are permitted to feature anyone who looks under 25 years old.
