Smoking among young people in Republic of Ireland down by 17% since 1998
According to figures published from the Health Behaviour in School-aged Children Trends Report (HBSC), smoking among young people in Ireland has declined by 17% in the past 2 decades, decreasing from 22.6% in 1998 to 5.3% in 2018. Rates of alcohol use as estimated in the HBSC have also decreased, from 33% to 19% over the same reporting period.
