Rise in tobacco consumption among smokers in France
In a survey by French public health agency Santé Publique, 27% of smokers said they had increased their tobacco consumption during COVID-19 lockdown, with an average increase of five cigarettes per day. High rates of smoking during lock-down were most likely among smokers whose daily routines had been disrupted. Almost half the smokers surveyed reported no change in tobacco consumption, while one-fifth said they had smoked less than they did before lock-down.
