Record numbers in England stop smoking during COVID-19 lock-down

The COVID-19 lock-down saw the highest numbers of people in England quitting smoking since the indoor smoking ban was introduced in 2007, according to data from the Smoking Toolkit Study. Almost 650,000 smokers in England quit in the 12 months to August 2020, compared with 307,000 over the same period to August 2019.
