Purdue Pharma pleads guilty to criminal charges

Purdue Pharma has pleaded guilty to criminal charges related to OxyContin sales and marketing. Purdue has admitted that it misled the federal government about OxyContin sales, that it marketed OxyContin to 100 doctors suspected of illegally prescribing the drug, and that it paid ‘kickbacks’ to doctors who prescribed OxyContin and to an electronic health records company that created alerts to promote OxyContin. The guilty plea means that the US federal government’s case against Purdue Pharma is now closed.
