Puerto Rico sees increased cocaine smuggling as COVID-19 lock-downs are eased

Puerto Rican authorities have reported that cocaine seizures were 64% higher between January and April 2021 compared with the same period in 2020. Around 6 tons of cocaine have been seized so far along Puerto Rica’s Caribbean coast, suggesting that drug trafficking has re-started following a period of inactivity during COVID-19 lock-downs.
