Paraguay forest fires started ‘to grow marijuana’

Paraguay has declared a state of emergency following weeks of forest fires. Guyra Paraguay, a non-governmental organisation, has claimed that many of the fires were started deliberately ‘for agricultural reasons or to grow marijuana’. The claim comes as armed men linked to cannabis cultivation were accused of preventing firefighters from accessing and containing forest fires.
