Nigeria’s National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has announced that it will eliminate production and sales of alcohol sachets by 2023/2024. Alcohol sachets contain small amounts of spirit drinks such as rum or whisky, they are typically 25ml and containing 40% alcohol or above. The process will be implemented in stages, with alcohol sachet producers initially being encouraged to reduce the alcohol concentration of their products. A full ban on production and sales of the small quantity, high alcohol products will be implemented in early 2024.
