New Zealand drug testing identifies poisonous 3,4-methylenedioxy-methamphetamine (MDMA) substitute

The New Zealand drug testing organisation ‘Know Your Stuff’ has issued a warning following the discovery of synthetic cathinones in substances sold as MDMA. Synthetic cathinones have a similar euphoric onset to MDMA, but the effects wear off faster. Redosing can then potentially lead to harmful effects including anxiety, seizures or respiratory failure. The cathinones have recently been linked to several poisoning cases.
