Moscow alcohol sales increase by 148% during COVID-19 pandemic

Following the introduction of social distancing measures designed to prevent the transmission of COVID-19 in Russia, alcohol sales in Moscow increased by 148%. In other areas of Russia, restrictions have been placed on alcohol purchase and consumption whilst ‘lock-down’ restrictions are in place; Karelia has restricted alcohol sales to between 10am and 2pm and Yakuta has banned alcohol in several areas following increases in crimes attributed to alcohol.
