Moldova has the highest global alcohol consumption

The Moldovan Ministry of Health has reported that 46,000 people in Moldova are ‘addicted to alcohol’ and that 580 people every year develop alcohol psychosis. The death rate from alcohol in Moldova is at 9% compared with the 5.6% global average reported by the World Health Organisation (WHO). If confirmed, the figures would mean that Moldova has the highest levels of problematic alcohol use in the world.
