Luxembourg plan to legalise recreational cannabis

The Health Minister and Justice Minister for Luxembourg, Étienne Schneider and Félix Braz, have visited Canada to discuss issues and processes necessary for legalising recreational cannabis. A date has not yet been set for any legislation; however, recreational cannabis is expected to be legalised in Luxembourg during the current legislature. The Ministers said that a preliminary concept is due to be established in late 2020 along with a ministerial task force to oversee any changes and to ensure public health concerns are addressed. There are no details yet about how regulations regarding possession, consumption or trade will be implemented; however, taxes raised by legalisation are due to be invested in education and drug prevention initiatives.
