Ireland plans to implement minimum unit pricing without Northern Ireland

Ireland’s Minister of State at the Department of Health has announced that Ireland will implement minimum unit pricing for alcohol ahead of Northern Ireland. The new legislation is due to be introduced by the end of 2021. Minimum unit pricing in Ireland was initially scheduled to be implemented at the same time as in Northern Ireland to avoid a surge in cross-border alcohol retail.
