Ireland drug service hands out over 50,000 crack pipes in 5 years

Health services in Ireland began handing out crack pipes to people who use drugs in 2016 as part of a national harm reduction strategy. Since that time over 50,000 crack pipes have been bought and distributed in Dublin, Limerick and Galway, with more distributed by local drug agencies across Ireland. The initiative is intended to prevent people sharing crack pipes and to reduce the risk of transmitting diseases such as hepatitis C.
