Indian Government approves cannabis research

The Indian government has authorised two programmes to conduct research into cannabis. The programmes are the first of their kind in India and will study the effects and properties of cannabidiol (CBD) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). The government has also granted cannabis cultivation licences to the Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (CIMAP) covering two sites, one in Lucknow and one in Pantnagar. Cultivation in both sites will be limited to cannabis for use in research.
