Increase in drug offences during the COVID-19 lock-down in England and Wales

Despite a reduction in crime in England and Wales during the COVID-19 lock-down, recorded drug offences were 27% higher between March and May 2020 compared with the same time in 2019. The increase has been attributed to increased visibility of people buying and selling drugs at a time when fewer people than usual are spending time outside.
