Iceland alcohol sales up 8% during COVID-19 pandemic
Sales of alcohol from Iceland’s state-owned monopoly were 8.2% higher in March 2020 than in March 2019. Red wine sales were up by 25.6% with white wine sales up by 15.6%; however, vodka sales were down by 2.6%. The increase has been attributed to people switching from drinking in bars and restaurants to drinking at home, and to people stockpiling alcohol before COVID-19 related lock-down measures were introduced.
