Heavy smoking linked with high COVID-19 death rate in Indonesia

Public health experts in Indonesia claim that its 6.6% COVID-19 case fatality rate (the percent of identified cases that die) is linked to heavy smoking. However, case-fatality rates are not informative unless one also knows how many people with the infection are identified as cases. Indonesia has high rates of smoking despite global declines, with nearly two-thirds of men continuing to smoke.
