GW Pharmaceuticals sued for cannabis extraction patent infringement

Canopy Growth Corporation has sued GW Pharmaceuticals following allegations of patent infringement. Canopy, a Canadian cannabis producer, claims that UK-based GW knowingly used its intellectual property when using a CO2-based method of cannabidiol (CBD) extraction to produce the medication Epidiolex. The patent that covers this extraction method was registered in 2000 and recently acquired by Canopy. If successful, the lawsuit could have financial implications for many cannabis processing companies.
