Ecuador bans smoking in enclosed public spaces

The Ecuador National Assembly has approved new tobacco-control legislation. The legislation will make it an offence to smoke, or to use snuff, in enclosed public spaces including workplaces, schools, public transport, pubs and nightclubs. Premises breaking the ban could face temporary closure for up to 15 days. The legislation also contains provisions requiring tobacco packaging to carry health warnings and images that show the harmful effects of smoking.
