Dutch government identifies illegal tobacco company payments

The Dutch food and product safety board (NVWA) has announced details of illegal payments made by 10 separate tobacco companies to supermarkets. The payments range from €10,000 to €2 million per year and were made in exchange for commitments by those supermarkets relating to tobacco product placement, sales targets and staff training. The government found the tobacco companies to be the instigators of the payments and has said that it will issue them with fines of between €45,000 and €450,000.
