Drug related deaths in Scotland – report

National Records of Scotland has reported that drug related deaths increased by 6% from 2018 to 2019. The report noted that 70% of people who died were male and two-thirds were between 35 and 54. There was an increase in drug related deaths from heroin and morphine, with these substances accounting for over half of the total. The rates of drug related deaths in Scotland is higher than in all EU countries and around 3.5 times that of the UK overall.
