Columbia coca cultivation down, production up

A study by the United Nations (UN) has reported that, although Columbian coca production dropped in 2017 and 2018, production of cocaine increased. The area of land used to grow coca reduced by an estimated 2,000 hectares yet cocaine production rose from 1,058 tons to 1,120 tons. The growth in production has been attributed to coca production moving to areas of the country most suited for coca cultivation and that therefore produce higher yields.
