Cannabis control bill amendment delayed in Guyana

An amendment to Guyana’s Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Control) Act that would reduce penalties for cannabis possession has been delayed. Currently, individuals caught in possession of up to 15 grams of cannabis can face between 3 and 5 years in prison. Under the amended legislation, individuals would face mandatory counselling treatment for the same offence.
