Canada to implement tobacco plain packaging

The Canadian Minister of Health, Ginette Petitpas Taylor, has announced new plain packaging regulations for tobacco. The regulations include standardised colours and bans on brand colours, slim cigarettes, cigarettes over 85mm in length, and branding or promotions on the cigarettes themselves. The regulations stipulate a ‘slide and shell’ format and will ensure that packets sold in Canada will carry the largest health warnings in the world.  The regulations are due to be implemented in November 2019.
