Brazilian tobacco exporter charged with using slave labour

Continental Tobaccos Alliance SA (CTA), a major Brazilian tobacco exporter that ships to over 50 countries, has been charged with using slave labour. The allegations were brought forward following the discovery of children aged between 9 and 16 years working on a farm in the southern Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul. CTA claims it is not responsible for the workers and that it does not oversee hiring procedures.
