Bolivia doubles allocation for legal coca farming

The Bolivian government has passed a bill that will increase the allocation for legal coca cultivation from 12,000 hectares to 22,000 hectares. This will, in turn, increase legal production to almost 30,000 tonnes of coca leaves per year. Around 25,000 tonnes of coca leaf are used annually for traditional and religious ceremonies in Bolivia with more legally grown coca exported to neighbouring countries such as Ecuador and Argentina.
