Australian watchdog claims no logical basis for festival strip-searches

The New South Wales police watchdog has concluded that if police suspect someone to be concealing drugs in their body, this suspicion provides insufficient grounds for conducting a strip-search. The watchdog’s report was commissioned following allegations of illegal strip-searching of young people at music festivals in 2019. The report also commented that if there were safety concerns about concealed drug packaging having burst then those people were best treated in a hospital.
