Australian capital legalises cannabis

Canberra has become the first Australian city to legalise recreational cannabis use. Cannabis possession and cultivation will be legal for people aged 18 and over from 31 January 2020. Residents of the city will be allowed to possess up to 50g of cannabis and to cultivate up to two cannabis plants per person, or four plants per household. The new law will conflict with national drug laws which still prohibit recreational cannabis possession or use.
