Armenia introduces new tobacco control law

The Armenian parliament approved a new law to strengthen tobacco control measures. Armenia currently has the second highest number of male smokers in the WHO European region, and attributes 10% of all annual deaths to smoking-related causes. The new law will ban indoor smoking and smoking in public places, in workplaces and on public transport. It will also ban advertising and tobacco product promotions. The new law is due to be implemented by March 2022, with fines for violating the smoking ban ranging from 50,000 drams to 200,000 drams.
