Alcohol sales in Spain up by 50% during COVID-19 lock-down

Alcohol sales increased by 50% during the third week of COVID-19 lock-down in Spain. The increase has been partly attributed to a shift from drinking in bars to drinking at home. There are, however, increasing concerns about rising levels of alcohol consumption. The change also marks a cultural shift: before lock-down, much of Spain’s alcohol consumption had occurred in social settings.
