Alcohol deaths in Scotland reach highest level in over a decade

National Records of Scotland has announced that alcohol-specific deaths increased to 1,190, a 17% increase compared with 2020. Despite a 10% fall in alcohol-related deaths in 2019, figures are now at their highest since 2008. Alcohol-related deaths were four times higher in the most deprived areas of the country compared with the least deprived.
