35,000 sign up for self-exclusion gambling register in Sweden

Following the implementation of new gambling laws in January 2019, Sweden has set up a self-exclusion service whereby people can register with Spelpaus.se to help prevent them from gambling. The database is designed to integrate with gambling operators in Sweden and to stop those on the register from accessing gambling shops and online platforms. A report published at the end of May 2019 claims that over 35,000 people in Sweden have registered with the service. Around 40% of those registered with Spelpaus.se are between 25 and 34 years old.
